Must-Hear: Band-Tipp „Guaia Guaia” – ein verrückter Mix aus verschiedenen Genres! (+English version)

Am 4.1. spielte die Neubrandenburger Band „Guaia Guaia“, bestehend aus zwei Männern auf dem Benefizkonzert von Radio Blau in Leipzig. Das Ganze fand statt in Halle D des Werk2.
Guaia Guaia kommen zwar ursprünglich aus Neubrandenburg, haben der mecklenburgischen Stadt jedoch den Rücken gekehrt und touren jetzt inoffiziell durch Deutschland. Geld für Essen und Unterkunft verdienen sich die zwei durch Straßenmusik und alles, was sie besitzen, befindet sich – Instrumente und Laptop inklusive – auf zwei Fahrradanhängern.
Der Musikstil der Band verbindet mehrere Elemente, unter anderem aber Rap, Blues, Ska und Electro. Eine interessante Mischung also und ein spezifisches Genre ist somit nicht zuzuordnen. Zwar dürften die Jungs nicht jedermanns Musikgeschmack treffen, jedoch machten sie am Samstagabend gut Stimmung.
Ich bin mir noch unschlüssig, was ich von dieser Art Musikgemisch halten soll. Und auch das Publikum, welches unter anderem in Hawaiihemden der Band zujubelten, fand ich überaus seltsam, jedoch war mir dieses Konzert mal eine willkommene Abwechselung zur sonst bevorzugten Hardcore- oder Punkmusik.
Übrigens drehte der Regisseur Sobo Swobodnik einen Film über die „Obdachlosigkeit“ der beiden Musiker, welcher auf dem Filmfest 2012 in München gezeigt wurde. Wer jetzt also neugierig auf eine ganz neue Musikschöpfung geworden ist, der sollte die Augen offen halten nach Underground-Konzerten des Duos, oder einfach mal im Sommer den Mauerpark besuchen. Ich bin mir fast sicher, dass Guaia Guaia dort auch mal spielen werden.

On January 4th the German two-men group Guaia Guaia played on the charity concert of Radio Blau in Leipzig. This took place in hall D of the location Werk2.
Guaia Guaia originally are from Neubrandenburg but left the city in Mecklenburg to unofficially tour across the country. They earn their money for food and shelter by playing music on the streets and everything they own, even their instruments and their lap top, are stowed in two bike trailers.
The band’s style of music includes several elements. Inter alia rap, blues, ska and electro. So it’s an interesting mix of music but impossible to be categorized into a genre. Still they really succeeded in heating up the crowd.
I am still unsure what to think about this type of music mix and also the audience, which contained people in Hawaiian shirts, was pretty weird. But still this concert was a welcome change, considering my otherwise preferred hardcore- or punk music.
By the way, the director Sobo Swobodnik made a film about the musicians’ homelessness, which was shown at the Filmfest in Munich in 2012. So whoever is curious now of a whole new creation of music should keep their eyes open for underground gigs of these two guys. Or just visit the Mauerpark. I am pretty sure Guaia Guaia will play there someday.
