Resumée: Konzert von Thy Art Is Murder/ Heart Of A Coward 17.1.14 in Conne Island Leipzig (+English version)

Thy Art Is Murder (,,Deine Kunst Ist Mord“), eine wundervolle Band des Genres Deathcore/ Technical Death Metal, gründete sich 2005 in Sydney. Ihre erste Single Infinite Death erschien 2008 unter dem Label Skull And Bones Records. Nur ein Jahr später wurde Brendan Van Ryn vom jetzigen Shouter und Frontmann der Band Chris ,,CJ“ McMahon abgelöst.
Die Band zeichnet sich durch dunkle, dramatische Klänge und dominante Gitarren aus. Ein hämmernder Double-Bass und tiefe Growls sowie vereinzelte schrille Gitarrenriffs, die ganz typisch für Deathcore sind, waren ebenfalls vertreten und laden dringlichst zum Moshen und zu ein paar gepflegten Highkicks ein. Thy Art Is Murder ist also definitiv keine Band für zarte Seelen. Dementsprechend wird sich auch das Konzert abspielen: Große, tätowierte Typen und toughe Mädels sind zu erwarten, jedoch kein Grund, sich abschrecken zu lassen.
Nachdem es einige Schwierigkeiten mit dem Veranstalter bezüglich des tatsächlichen Stattfindens des Konzertes gab, einigte man sich auf Grund der hohen Anzahl der verkauften Tickets doch, Thy Art Is Murder (kurz TaiM) auftreten zu lassen.
Kurz vor dem 17.1. wurde auf der offiziellen Homepage des Conne Island kundgegeben, dass das Konzert aufgrund der frauenfeindlichen, teils sexistischen Texte der Band abgesagt wurde. Man muss dazu sagen, dass das Conne Island ein sehr links-orientierter Club ist, der auf die einzelnen Karten sogar eine Antifa-Steuer erhebt. Ob das so legitim ist, bezweifle ich allerdings, da es den Mitgliedern der Antifa selbst nicht mehr erlaubt ist, das Conne Island zu besuchen.
Ich persönlich finde die Reaktion auf die Texte TaiMs überzogen, zumal ich als Frau mich nicht angesprochen fühle. Die Beschreibung von Folter bis hin zu Verstümmelung von Menschen (egal welchen Geschlechts) ist nun mal Standard beim Deathcore und sollte keinesfalls ernst oder gar als Aufforderung gesehen werden.
Nun zum Konzert an sich:
Ich muss sagen, dass mich die Vorbands bei einem Konzert nie so geflasht haben wie bei diesem. Es traten auf: Aegaeon, Aversions Crown, Heart of a Coward und selbstverständlich Thy Art Is Murder. Alle diese Bands würde ich eher zum Bereich Deathcore/Death Metal zählen und dementsprechend war auch das Publikum alles andere als Emokids.
Die beiden ersten Bands, die auftraten, sind, wie ich befürchte, Newcomer in Deutschland und wirkten dementsprechend nervös auf der Bühne. Aversions Crown entsprach zwar nicht ganz meinem Geschmack, ist aber definitiv hörenswert. Dafür gefiel mir Aegaeon (bedeutet Mond) umso besser.
Mir fiel auf, dass jede der Bands ein Feature hat, welches es mir schwer macht, sie zu vergessen. So hat Aegaeon einen Shouter mit langen, welligen Haaren wie eine Prinzessin (Ich bin mir sicher, das würde er nicht gerne hören…), auf die ich definitiv neidisch bin. Aversions Crown hat gleich zwei Gitarristen (beide 7-saitig) und zwei Bassisten (beide 5-saitig). Zu guter Letzt haben Heart of a Coward einen Drummer, der erschreckend aussieht wie Justin Biebers böser Zwilling, und TAiM sind sowieso unverwechselbar.
Jedoch muss ich sagen, dass vor allem Heart of a Coward mich überzeugten und TAiM sogar etwas in den Schatten stellten. Unglaublich schnelle Riffs und Double-Bass! Ein Traum! Alles in allem ein wunderbares Konzert mit einer tollen Neuentdeckung! Jedem, der sich die Jungs heute am 23.1.14 in Berlin ansieht, wünsche ich viel Spaß!

Thy Art Is Murder, a band of the genre Deathcore/ Technical Death Metal, have been founded in 2005 in Sydney. Their first single Infinite Death has been published in 2008 by the label Skull And Bones Records. Only one year after that, Brendan Van Ryn got replaced by the current shouter and band leader Chris “CJ” McMahon.
The band is characterized by its dark, dramatic sounds and dominating guitars. A pounding double bass and deep growls as well as occasional high-pitched guitar riffs, which are very typical for Deathcore, are also marking this band’s music. The sounds urgently invite to mosh. So Thy Art Is Murder are definitely not a band for tender minds. According to this the crowd will look like this: Huge tattooed guys and rough girls. But that’s not a reasons to stay away at all!
After some difficulties caused by the host, considering the actual happening of this concert, people agreed to let it take place, due to the high number of tickets that have been sold. Shortly before January 17th the official homepage of Conne Island announced the show to be canceled because of the sexist lyrics of Thy Art is Murder.
I have to mention that Conne Island is a club on the far left which even puts an Antifa tax on every ticket they sell. But I doubt the legitimacy of that because the Antifa isn’t even allowed to enter the club.
Well I think the Conne Island’s reaction on TAiM’s lyrics was way too exaggerated particularly since I, as a woman, do not feel attacked by this band. The description of torture and distortion of human beings (no matter what gender) is simply a typical element of deathcore and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
Let’s talk about the concert:
I have to say that I have never been this impressed by supporting bands. On stage Aegaeon, Aversions Crown, Heart of a Coward as opening acts and of course Thy Art is Murder heated up the crowd. Each of these bands can be considered death metal / deathcore and accordingly the audience was anything but emo kids.
I think the first two bands on stage are newcomers in Europe and have never played in Germany before. So you could see they were kind of nervous. Aversions Crown wasn’t totally my type of music but still they made a good show on stage. I really liked Aegaeon (which means moon) though.
I noticed that each band has a special feature that makes them unforgettable. So Aegaeon’s shouter has really long wavy hair like a princess (I bet he’d hate to hear that…) which made me really jealous. Aversions Crown has two guitarists (both play 7 strings) and two bassists (both play 5 strings). Well Heart of a Coward has a drummer that awkwardly looks like Justin Bieber’s evil twin. Well, and TAiM are unforgettable anyway.
I have to mention that especially Heart of a Coward fascinated me and they even beat TAiM on stage. Incredibly fast riffs and double bass! Such a dream! All in all it was a wonderful concert with great newcomers! I wish everyone who’s seeing these boys on stage tonight in Berlin a lot of fun!
